What can I expect at my first appointment?

After our 15-minute phone consultation, you may choose to begin treatment and schedule an in-person appointment. At our first appointment, we will complete an evaluation where we identify a past history of your symptoms, treatment history, current stressors, and treatment goals. Of course, I welcome any questions you have for me and hope we can collaborate on your treatment wherever possible. You are the expert on you! I just provide clarity on the various paths forward.

 

How long and how often should I attend therapy?

It is recommended that we schedule a weekly session for the first one to two months. Afterwards, frequency and duration of treatment depends on the level of need. Some clients prefer to attend every other week depending on their schedule, finances, or severity of symptoms. I am flexible, and will share my feedback, but this decision is up to you.

 

Can I use my insurance to pay for sessions?

I am in network only with Lyra Health, an EAP program offered by many employers. For all major insurance companies, I am considered an out-of-network provider. There are many pros and cons to using your insurance for mental health coverage, which I would be happy to discuss with you. If you’d like to explore the option of utilizing insurance for part or all of the session cost, see the Investment section of this site for more information on using out of network reimbursement.

What is your cancellation policy?

When we schedule an appointment, I set aside that time only for you. Cancellations are accepted without charge up to 24 hours in advance of the scheduled session. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance or do not show to your appointment, my policy is to charge the full session fee. This allows me to stay in business and be able to serve my clients and schedule my own needs with childcare, etc.
